Data access

Arthur owns a smartphone which he uses for both personal and professional purposes. When installing an application, he did not disable the application’s access to his personal data. Now, the application’s publisher can access all the SMS messages on his phone.

Despite offering innovative services, today’s smartphones are not very secure. That’s why it’s essential to apply certain basic computer security rules:

• Be warned that a hacked application may contain means of accessing your data
• install only the applications you need, and check what data they can access before downloading them (geographical information, contacts, telephone calls, etc.). Some applications require access to data that is not necessary for their operation, so avoid installing them;
• in addition to the PIN code that protects your phone card, use a scheme or password to secure access to your terminal and set it to lock automatically;
• make regular back-ups of your content on an external medium, so that you can keep it in case you need to restore your device to its original state;
• don’t /pre-record/save your passwords on any device other than your own.
