Taking care of your personal and professional information and your digital identity

Alan receives an e-mail inviting him to enter a competition to win a laptop computer. To enter, he had to provide his e-mail address. In the end, Alain didn’t win, but he now receives many unwanted e-mails.

The data you leave on the Internet instantly escapes you.
We therefore advise you to be very careful when giving out your personal information on the Internet:

Malicious people practice social engineering, i.e. they harvest your personal information, usually fraudulently and without your knowledge, in order to deduce your passwords, gain access to your computer system, or even usurp your identity or conduct industrial espionage activities.

  • be careful about the forms you fill in:
  • only transmit information that is strictly necessary;
  • remember to uncheck any boxes that would authorize the site to store or share your data;
  • only give access to a minimum of personal and professional information on social networks, and be vigilant when interacting with other users other users;
  • regularly check your security and privacy settings (Cf. CNIL guide to personal data security);
  • Finally, use several e-mail addresses dedicated to your different activities on the internet : one address reserved for “serious” activities (banking, job searches, professional activities, etc.) and one address for other online services (forums, competitions, etc.).
